These guidelines assume that you know how to use some basic Windows functions such as using the search function and right clicking.

Some Common Problems.

I can't find the files I've copied from the CD-Roms
When I put the CD in nothing happens
The lesson runs very jerkily and not smoothly
There's no star in the bottom corner and there appears to be only one slide
I don't know what to click on to start the lesson
How do I exit the lesson?

I can't find the files I've copied from the CD-Rom
To find them use the windows search function. You can specify the search function to look for files created during the day. The files will be called part one, part two and part three or you can look for the specific lessons such as alcohol, cannabis, solvents etc.

The lessons run by double clicking the large F icon located in the lesson folders.

When I put the CD in nothing happens
Click on "my computer" either from the desktop or the start menu. Then double click on the icon that represents your CD-ROM drive. For some older computers there may be a significant delay before the lessons start to install (up to two minutes).

The lesson runs very jerkily and not smoothly
There are a number of things that you can do to improve performance of the lesson. The most significant one is to make sure that the computer is running with a screen resolution of 800x600. To check this, right click on the desktop and select settings. The box that appears includes a slider to set the screen resolution. Ensure that the screen is running at 800x600.

Also make sure that no other programs are running such as Word etc. This will help.

In extreme cases you will get a better performance by right clicking on the lesson itself while it is running, selecting "quality" and reducing the quality setting. This however should be a last resort.

You have probably clicked on the wrong file. Each lesson is contained in a folder called by that lesson's name eg. the cannabis lesson is contained in a folder called cannabis. When you open the folder there is a large icon, usually a large F followed by the lesson name as well as another folder called "content". Double click on the large F to launch the lesson. Do not open or modify the contents folder as the lesson will no longer work.

To exit the lesson press the escape key to move out of full screen mode and then press the cross in the top right hand corner in  the usual way.
